TRAVELLING WITH PETS
Even though your pet can't fly in the cabin with you, we know your pets are part of your family – which is why we treat every animal who flies with care. Your pet can still travel safely and comfortably on the same flight as you, in the hold of most of our aircraft.
Acceptance of your pets on board Air Mauritius flights is strictly as per the latest edition of the IATA Live Animals Regulations Manual.
Special conditions may apply for the carriage of certain categories of animals, for example bulldogs, bull terriers, burmese cats, etc.
Prior to travel, you will have to ensure that your pet is in good health, vaccination certificates are up to date and all relevant permits (export/import/transit) are in order.
Pets travelling as cargoIn case your pet has to travel alone, please note that we ship a wide variety of animals. You can be sure that your pet will travel safely and comfortably to its destination.
The total weight of the animal, container and food (carried in aircraft hold) is charged at the applicable rate.
The shipper has to ensure that cages and number of pets per cage, meet the standards as required by IATA. Please consult your Cargo agent for the formalities.
Travelling with your pet as checked luggageAir Mauritius does not allow the transportation of pets in cabin.
However, pets can be carried as checked luggage depending on the local country regulations you intend to visit. These include domestic animals such as cats, dogs, birds, etc. Please check with Air Mauritius or your travel agent prior to your travel.
Passengers who intend to travel with a pet as checked baggage must notify Air Mauritius at the time of booking their flight.
Important note: Domestic animals of unusual sizes, reptiles and rodents must be transported as cargo only.
BookingPlease contact our Air Mauritius Cargo Office or liaise with your freight forwarder who will provide you with valuable guidelines on how to prepare your pets for travel, assist with the relevant formalities and book space with Air Mauritius.
Prior to your travel, you must ensure that your pet is in good health, vaccination certificates are up to date and all relevant permits (export/import/transit) are in order.
For more details regarding the required permits, we request you to contact the Veterinary Services Department of the concerned Ministry.
Guidelines for importation of pets into Mauritius or export from Mauritius.
In the event, your pet is in transit in Mauritius with long/overnight connection – we can make special arrangements, against a fee, for a service provider to attend to your pet for it to be fed and have a walk around.
Government regulations and policiesFor your pet to travel hassle-free, please do take note that all animals, upon landing in any country/region, may be examined by government veterinary officials. Keep in mind that veterinary inspection fees may be charged. Local veterinary health certificates obtained from animal clinics are not sufficient to clear government veterinary inspections. To obtain these additional documents, such as government approved health certificates, please contact the consulate or embassy of the country/region to which you are travelling.
